FG denies ban on importation of frozen fish

Gistdomaine
ABUJA—The Federal Government, yesterday, debunked the news making the rounds that it had banned the importation of frozen fish into the country, describing the allegation as false.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, said there had never been any ban on frozen fish in the country, pointing out that what the government did was rather to enforce strict control on prohibition of farmed fish.

Adesina explained that the new fish importation policies were geared towards boosting local fish farming and production in a bid to protect the country from becoming a dumping ground by fish importers at the expense of local investors and general health of Nigerians.

Adesina, also said that Nigeria has been recertified to export shrimps to the United States of America, USA, indicating efforts made to transform the fish industry.

SSANU rejects N373.4bn budget on education…says it falls short of UNESCO 26% recommendation

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities has said that the N373.4 billion allocated to the education sector by the Federal Government in this year’s budget fell far short of the 26 per cent minimum recommended by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

The Chairman of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta chapter of SSANU, Abdussobur Salam said this at a press conference held at the end of the congress by members of the union in the institution.

He said further  that inspite of the fact that education got the second highest allocation in this year’s budget, the fund was too paltry to have the desired impact on the sector.

What JAMB’s ‘one-varsity only’ directive could mean for candidatesMany candidates registering for this year’s  Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations, UTME, were shocked when they were given the choice to pick only one university of their choice, contrary to the traditional first and second choice options of universities and/or polytechnics. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, responsible for the UTME, in a new policy has made it compulsory for candidates to pick one university, one polytechnic, one college of education and one innovative enterprise institute (IEI) when registering for their exams.

Now, BeyondBranches has developed the payment ecosystem further by enabling any customer to deposit cash into any bank account held at any bank in Nigeria at an agent. Using this approach, BeyondBranches has been able to bring the bank within easy reach of those who need to deposit cash quickly and securely.

Celebrating 100 years of Togetherness! Its really an event to celebrate as Nigeria clocks a hundred years after amalgamation

Gistdomaine
Jan 1 2014 marked a hundred years since the entity 'Nigeria' was formed via the amalgamation by Sir Frederick Lugard.
One hundred heritage sites across the federation has been identified by the Federal Government, and are to be declared national monument in commemoration of the country’s centenary celebration.
Disclosing this while receiving a delegation of curators from the North Eastern museums led by the Curator, Yola Museum, Mr Inuwa Babantata, in Abuja, Director General of National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM) Malam Yusuf Usman, noted that those selected were related to amalgamation and colonial era.
According to him, President Goodluck Jonathan would make the declaration during the celebration in 2014.
He noted that the commission was currently studying some artefacts to determine their conservative status, in order to enhance the declaration that would be used to foster national unity in the country.
“100 heritage sites have been identified as National Monuments across the country especially those related to the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern Protectorates, our colonial past and other things that relates to Nigeria.
“These 100 sites have been documented and the process of stakeholder’s consultation has been done. All the communities where the sites are located have been contacted and we are hopeful that after giving out notices in newspapers which is part of the conditions to be fulfilled, then it will be declared,” Usman said.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Inuwa Babantata, said they were in the commission to felicitate with the DG on his re-appointment to steer the affairs of the commission for another four years.
He lauded the DG for his pro-activeness, innovation and determination to ensure transparency and accountability in the administration of the commission.

If they can be happy, i wonder why you think you can not be happy... cheer up and be happy.

It's a story about a father and his beloved daughter. very captivating; read on...

Gistdomaine
One rainy afternoon I was driving along one of the main streets of town, taking those extra precautions necessary when the roads are wet and slick. Suddenly, my daughter,  Aspen, spoke up from her relaxed position in her seat. "Dad, I'm thinking of something."
This announcement usually meant she had been pondering some fact for a while, and was now ready to expound all that her six-year-old mind had discovered. I was eager to hear.
"What are you thinking?" I asked.
"The rain!;" she began,"is like sin, and the windshield wipers are like God wiping our sins away.

Read this story about a man who thought he didn't have a reason to celebrate Christmas..(The Gas Station (Xmas)). enjoy

Gistdomaine

The old man sat in his gas station on a cold Christmas Eve. He hadn't been anywhere in years since his wife had passed away. He had no decorations, no tree, no lights. It was just another day to him. He didn't hate Christmas, just couldn't find a reason to celebrate. There were no children in his life. His wife had gone.
He was sitting there looking at the snow that had been falling for the last hour and wondering what it was all about when the door opened and a homeless man stepped through. Instead of throwing the man out, George, Old George as he was known by his customers, told the man to come and sit by the space heater and warm-up.
"Thank you, but I don't mean to intrude," said the stranger. "I see you're busy. I'll just go"
"Not without something hot in your belly," George turned and opened a wide mouth Thermos and handed it to the stranger. "It ain't much, but it's hot and tasty. Stew. Made it myself. When you're done there's coffee and it's fresh."

I read this story and it was so so touching, so i decided to share it. hope it touches you too

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky. In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there were one set of footprints.
This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints.
